How much does marketing cost for a trade business?
Published rules of thumb for plumbing companies run from 3 to 15 percent of revenue, with smaller companies at the low end. Hausstack Marketing is $750 a month, or $600 with Hausstack Pro. Your first month is free.
What the published numbers say
Both sources below are about plumbing companies. We have not found equally solid published numbers for electricians, HVAC companies or roofers, so treat plumbing as the closest guide.
Plumbing companies typically spend 8 to 15 percent of revenue on marketing. Under $1M in revenue: 5 to 8 percent. $1M to $5M: 8 to 12 percent.
Plan on 3 to 5 percent of gross revenue, and no more than 5 percent.
What that means for a $500,000 business
Simple math on the ranges above, for a business doing $500,000 a year:
Hausstack Marketing at $750 a month is $9,000 a year, about 1.8 percent of that revenue. Ads are on top of that if you run them, and the ad money goes to Google or Meta, not to us.
What $750 a month includes
- Your website, looked after. Built for your business, hosted, kept up to date, and set up so Google can read it.
- Your Google listing, kept current. Photos, hours, services and posts, so the listing people check first is never stale.
- Two new website pages a month. Each one about a job you do or a neighborhood you serve, at your own web address.
- Reviews asked for and answered. After every job your customer gets a text asking for a review. We answer every review, good or bad.
- One email a month to past customers. A useful tip, a seasonal reminder or a deal, with your name on it, so you are the one they remember.
Optional extras, like Google ads run by us, short videos or more pages, are priced separately. We go through them on the call.
Prices as of November 2026.
Is paying for leads cheaper?
Sometimes, for a slow week. But a bought lead is gone once the job is done, and the same request can reach more than one company. We compare the two in Angi, Thumbtack or your own marketing.
